This month we gathered for our final meeting of the spring season at NARI. Our June meeting is always special as we award the annual student scholarships, but this year was particularly touching. This year, we renamed our EM NARI Trade Scholarship as The James Marcotte Trade Scholarship, in honor of the passing of our longtime member, Jim Marcotte. It seemed a fitting way to honor Jim’s legacy and all he gave to our organization. In reflecting on Jim’s involvement with EM NARI, it is striking how many connections he had with the chapter. Early in his career he joined NARI and developed lasting relationships through his decades at EM NARI. He participated in the Certified Remodeler program in the late eighties and developed connections with colleagues that would help him shape the success at Dovercraft. Over time, he began to pay forward the benefits he had received from his early years at NARI. He gave generously of his time serving our chapter in leadership positions. And, he gave generously of his time helping young remodelers as they got their start in the business. For many of us, Jim’s example reminds us that our commitment at NARI is both a benefit and a responsibility. As we come together to learn, connect, and grow, we must also challenge ourselves to find ways to give back to EM NARI and to our industry. I hope you will join me in that challenge.
As we move forward, our investment in the next generation of remodeling industry professionals continues. We have our Youth Remodeling Career Day scheduled for Tuesday, October 17th at the Bolton Fairgrounds. Last year we welcomed 500 high school students studying for a career in the industry. This year we plan to grow the event, but we need your help to participate as Activity Station Hosts. You can create the interactive activity of your choice, or we can work with you to develop ideas. Don’t miss this chance to inspire the next generation of remodeling industry workers!
And, with so many new and exciting initiatives at our chapter, we will also be unveiling a new logo in September! Many of you have seen the new NARI logo that was launched by NARI national last fall. We will be adopting an EM NARI chapter logo that creates synergy with the national logo and the logos of the NARI chapters around the country. We will be hard at work this summer creating the plans to launch this new logo and we look forward to sharing it with you in September. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact me, or Michelle Glassburn at firstname.lastname@example.org, along the way.
Have a wonderful summer!Kathy DeMeyer508.email@example.com
