President’s Message – June 2018
Typically, as summer approaches, our businesses are in high gear tackling the projects we have been planning all spring. Often, this is a time when the activity at NARI subsides – but not this year! With all that is going on at our chapter, allow me to share a few highlights and updates with you. The best way to do that is by sharing some of the work of our committees. And, as you renew your dues and reaffirm your commitment to NARI, now is a great time to grow your connections by getting involved with one of these great groups:
EDUCATION / PROGRAMS COMMITTEE (Co-Chairs: Tom Hart, Phil Cherkas, Cathy Follett)
This committee is charged with planning the dinner meetings, seminars, certification study groups, and our Remodelers Conference. They are planning the programs for 2019 and need your input. Be sure to complete our EM NARI survey by June 30th. Your responses now, will help guide our future programs!

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE (Co-Chairs: Kelly Pappas, Chris Manley)
The membership committee is responsible for recruiting new NARI members, and for helping create valuable connections among NARI members. The first year of our pilot mentorship program is off to a great start – and recruitment for our next cycle is starting. Let the membership committee know if you would like to be a part! Also new this year, the membership committee is planning our first Women in Remodeling event this fall. Look for more information soon. And finally, we need help from our EM NARI remodelers to complete the Professional Remodeler salary benchmarking survey. This is an incredibly important effort. I’m asking that you take a moment to complete the survey here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/LPSX3YX
MARKETING / PR COMMITTEE (Chair: Justin Zeller)
Our chapter is undertaking a website revamp. It’s been 4 years since our last update and much has changed in the “web world.” A new design will help boost traffic to the site, increase the functionality of our directory, and add some exciting new member features. This committee is also charged with creating our newsletter content. If you have a great article that offers helpful information to remodelers, let them know!
GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS COMMITTEE (Co-Chairs: Roger Gallagher, Ron Peik)
This group is our eyes and ears at the state level – and your voice in government. Right now there are a number of legislative efforts to support workforce development. It is critical that the voice of our industry – and small businesses as a whole – is heard.
WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE (Chair: Kathy DeMeyer)
The workforce development committee is working hard to increase the pipeline of new workers in the remodeling industry! They are growing EM NARI’s school partnership program and creating ways to better support businesses who take co-op students and apprentices. Over time, they hope to expand their efforts to younger students, parents, and career changers.
EVENT PLANNING COMMITTEES:
• EM NARI Golf Tournament (Chair: Bill Farnsworth)
Don’t miss our 20th annual EM NARI Golf Tournament scheduled again at Shaker Hills Country Club in Harvard on September 26th. Sponsorships are on sale now and player registration opens at the end of June.
• EM NARI Youth Remodeling Career Day (Chair: Stephen Ross)
Planning is underway for our third year, so mark your calendar for Tuesday, October 16th! With nearly 150 students already registered, we are excited to explore ways to continue to grow the event. We are beginning outreach to NARI members to host interactive activity stations at this year’s event. Please look for information on ways you can participate.
• EM NARI CotY Awards (Co-Chairs: Kathy DeMeyer, Tiffani Tartaglia)
The 2019 CotY Awards entries will open later this summer. The best way to win a CotY is to approach each project as a potential award winner. Make sure you are taking great photos all summer!
As you can see, EM NARI is buzzing with activity. We hope you will consider being a part of this work. If you would like to volunteer for a committee, contact Michelle at firstname.lastname@example.org about opportunities. I hope to see each of you on July 11th at The Ultimate Bath Store in Lowell. In the meantime, enjoy the summer!
