For the first time in many years many of us are doing better again. It is possible to think about growing our businesses, growing our own capacity, becoming better professionals. NARI certifications are an excellent resource, among the many our industry has available, to kick start this process. I took NARI’s CR study group and became certified back in the late 90’s, I can say with absolute certainty that this experience contributed to my business and personal professional growth! Since then I’ve obtained two more NARI certifications.
The process of becoming certified gives you so much more than just the materials you study and the credential at the end of successfully passing the exam. I have always found that the study groups themselves are one of the best parts, if not the best part, of the experience. I’ve made so many great professional relationships both through participating in study groups and leading study groups. These relationships remain strong peer resources for me and I will often reach out to past study group folks to ask a question or for a referral to a sub or vendor.
It is often the “invisible” or in between the lines characteristics of industry education where much of the value comes from. The act of simply committing to further yourself professionally or contribute to a study group puts one on a path to professional excellence.
We are offering four certifications this late winter: Certified Kitchen and Bath Remodeler, Certified Remodeling Project Manager, Certified Lead Carpenter, and Universal Design Certified Professional. These are all great programs to delve into, but don’t underestimate the power that being involved in the group can bring you. Sign up yourself -- or one of your employee’s -- for one today! Make excellence part of your plan for 2014!
